Launch of the Universal Ratification Campaign of the Optional Protocols to the Convention on the Rights of the Child -  New York, May 25 2010

Both the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on children and armed conflict and on violence against children have convened meetings with NGOs to invite for participation in their campaign for universal ratification of the Optional Protocols to the CRC. The campaign is being launched on May 25th, the 10th annivesary of the protocols, and aim for universal ratification by 2012, the 10th anniversary of their entry into force.

As of today, about 60 governments have not ratified the protocol on involvement of children in armed conflict; about 55 have not ratified the protocol on sale of children; and about 40 have ratified neither protocol. DCI calls for action the whole movement and the civil society, in order to contribute to making the celebration of the Optional Protocols a grand celebration indeed.
